These Vintage African Trade beads are from the Dogan Tribe in Mali. The beads are called "Dutch Donuts" because of their shape and they are formed in a style of Dutch beads that were traded into Africa. They are made of glass that was wrapped around a mandrel and formed into a round shape. Because the beads are wound glass, they are all truly one of a kind. Some of these beads have traveled at least 3 continents and have graced numerous owners. Small chips, corrosion and pitting are normal parts of their patina attesting to their age.
